Glass Options
EcoShield Window Systems offers a variety of glass options designed to enhance the performance and aesthetic of their sliding horizontal windows. These options focus on energy efficiency, security, and visual clarity.
Glass Options
- Low-E Coatings: EcoShield windows can be equipped with advanced Low-E (low-emissivity) coatings. These microscopically thin, transparent coatings are applied to the glass surface and are designed to reflect infrared light, which is a major source of heat. In the summer, they reflect solar heat away from the home, helping to keep interiors cooler. In the winter, they reflect interior heat back into the room, contributing to a warmer living space.
- Argon Gas Fill: For further insulation, the space between the glass panes can be filled with Argon gas. Argon is a non-toxic, odorless, and invisible inert gas that is denser than air. This density creates a more effective barrier against heat transfer than air alone, improving the overall thermal performance of the window.
- Warm Edge Spacers: The spacer system that separates the glass panes plays a crucial role in preventing condensation and improving insulation. EcoShield utilizes warm edge spacer technology, which are made from less conductive materials compared to traditional metal spacers. This reduces the transfer of heat and cold at the edges of the insulated glass unit, leading to a more comfortable interior temperature and minimizing the risk of moisture buildup.
- Tempered Glass: For enhanced safety and security, tempered glass is an available option. Tempered glass is a type of safety glass that is processed by controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with normal glass. When broken, tempered glass fractures into small, relatively harmless granular pieces, rather than sharp shards. This makes it ideal for areas where safety is a primary concern.
- Laminated Glass: Laminated glass provides an added layer of security and sound insulation. It is constructed by sandwiching a layer of plastic interlayer between two or more sheets of glass. This construction makes it more resistant to penetration. If broken, the glass fragments tend to adhere to the interlayer, reducing the risk of injury and providing a barrier against forced entry and noise.
- Tinted Glass: Tinted glass options are available to control the amount of visible light and solar heat that enters a home. Tints can reduce glare and provide a degree of privacy while also contributing to energy efficiency by reducing the need for excessive air conditioning.
- Obscure Glass: For privacy in areas such as bathrooms or entryways, obscure glass is offered. This type of glass distorts light and vision, providing a barrier while still allowing natural light to pass through.

EcoShield Window Systems offers a range of high-quality windows designed for durability and energy efficiency. The construction of EcoShield windows focuses on robust materials and innovative design to provide long-lasting performance.
The primary material used in the construction of EcoShield windows is vinyl. This choice of material is due to vinyl's inherent properties, which include:
- Durability: Vinyl is resistant to rot, corrosion, and insect damage, ensuring a long lifespan for the window frames.
- Low Maintenance: Vinyl frames do not require painting or staining and are easy to clean, reducing upkeep for homeowners.
- Energy Efficiency: Vinyl is a good insulator, contributing to the overall thermal performance of the window.
- Cost-Effectiveness: Vinyl offers a balance of performance and affordability.
In addition to the vinyl frames, EcoShield windows incorporate advanced glazing systems. These typically include:
- Double-Pane or Triple-Pane Glass: Offering enhanced insulation and noise reduction.
- Low-E (Low-Emissivity) Coatings: These microscopic metallic coatings on the glass surfaces help to reflect solar heat in the summer and retain indoor heat in the winter, significantly improving energy efficiency.
- Inert Gas Fills: Spaces between the glass panes are often filled with argon or krypton gas. These gases are denser than air and provide a higher level of insulation, further reducing heat transfer.
- Warm-Edge Spacers: These are used between the glass panes to minimize condensation and improve thermal performance at the edges of the glass unit.
The overall construction aims for a tight seal, preventing air and water infiltration. This is achieved through:
- Multi-Chambered Frames: The vinyl extrusions often feature multiple internal chambers that trap air, enhancing insulation and structural integrity.
- Fusion-Welded Corners: The frames are typically fusion-welded at the corners for superior strength and a weather-tight seal.
- Weatherstripping: High-quality, durable weatherstripping is applied to all moving parts of the window to create a barrier against the elements.
EcoShield Window Systems also offers a variety of hardware and locking mechanisms, designed for both security and ease of operation. These components are selected for their resilience and ability to withstand regular use.

Frame Options
EcoShield Window Systems offers a range of robust frame options designed to enhance the performance, aesthetics, and durability of their window products. These frames are engineered to meet various architectural and functional needs.
Frame Materials
- Vinyl Frames: EcoShield's vinyl frames are a popular choice for their excellent insulation properties, low maintenance requirements, and cost-effectiveness. They are designed to resist warping, cracking, and fading, ensuring long-term performance and aesthetic appeal. These frames contribute to energy efficiency by minimizing heat transfer.
Frame Construction & Features
- Multi-Chambered Design: Many of EcoShield's frames feature a multi-chambered internal construction. This design element traps air within the frame, creating additional insulation barriers. This significantly reduces thermal conductivity, helping to keep interiors cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, leading to reduced energy costs.
- Reinforced Structures: For enhanced structural integrity and security, certain frame profiles may incorporate reinforcement. This can include metal reinforcements within the vinyl extrusions, providing greater strength and stability, especially in larger window units or in areas prone to high winds.
- Fusion-Welded Corners: The corners of EcoShield's frames are typically fusion-welded. This process creates a strong, monolithic bond between the frame components, ensuring airtightness and water-tightness. This robust construction prevents drafts and leaks, contributing to a comfortable and energy-efficient home.
- Weatherstripping: Integrated weatherstripping is a key feature of EcoShield's frame systems. These seals are designed to create a tight barrier against the elements, preventing air and water infiltration. This is crucial for maintaining indoor comfort and protecting the home from moisture damage.
- Drainage Systems: Thoughtful drainage channels are incorporated into the frame design to effectively manage and expel any water that may accumulate. This prevents water from pooling and seeping into the building envelope, further enhancing the durability and performance of the windows.
Customization and Aesthetics
While the primary focus of EcoShield's frame options is on performance and durability, the design also considers aesthetic integration. The vinyl frames are available in a selection of colors and finishes to complement various architectural styles and homeowner preferences.
Glass Options
EcoShield Window Systems offers a variety of glass options designed to enhance energy efficiency, comfort, and durability for their windows and skylights.
Standard Glass Options
EcoShield provides several standard glass configurations:
- Double Pane: This is the most common option, featuring two panes of glass separated by a sealed space.
- Low-E Coating: All EcoShield windows come standard with a Low-E coating. This microscopic, metallic layer is applied to the glass surface and is virtually invisible. It works by reflecting infrared heat, keeping your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, thereby reducing energy costs.
- Argon Gas Fill: The space between the two panes of glass is typically filled with Argon gas. Argon is a colorless, odorless, and non-toxic gas that is denser than air. Its presence further enhances the insulating properties of the window by slowing heat transfer between the interior and exterior.
Enhanced Glass Options for Increased Performance
For homeowners seeking even greater performance and customization, EcoShield offers several upgrades:
- Triple Pane: This option includes three panes of glass with two sealed spaces, offering superior insulation compared to double-pane windows. This is ideal for climates with extreme temperature variations or for those prioritizing maximum energy savings.
- Impact Glass (Laminated Glass): This option provides enhanced security and protection against severe weather events. Impact glass is constructed with a durable interlayer between two panes of glass. In the event of breakage, the glass fragments adhere to the interlayer, maintaining the window's integrity and preventing dangerous shards from scattering. This is particularly beneficial in hurricane-prone regions.
- Obscure Glass: For areas where privacy is desired, such as bathrooms or entryways, obscure glass is available. This type of glass distorts the view, allowing light to pass through while obscuring visibility.
- Tinted Glass: Various tint options can be applied to the glass to reduce solar heat gain and glare. This can further improve comfort and help protect interior furnishings from UV fading.
Grids and Decorative Options
To complement various architectural styles, EcoShield offers grid options:
- Internal Grids: Grids are sealed within the airspace between the glass panes. This design offers the aesthetic appeal of traditional gridded windows while ensuring easy cleaning and maintenance, as there are no physical obstructions on the glass surface.
- External Grids: These grids are applied to the exterior surface of the glass for a more authentic look.
- Simulated Divided Lites (SDLs): SDLs offer a visually authentic divided-lite appearance by using narrow strips of glass or spacer bars attached to the interior and exterior surfaces of a single pane of glass. This provides the classic look of multiple panes without sacrificing energy efficiency.
Options-Styles
EcoShield Window Systems offers a diverse range of window solutions designed to enhance both the aesthetics and energy efficiency of any architectural project. Their product line is characterized by a commitment to quality, durability, and advanced design, catering to a variety of style preferences and functional requirements.
The company specializes in windows and skylights, with a particular focus on architectural shapes. This means that beyond standard rectangular or square windows, EcoShield can provide custom-shaped solutions to meet unique design visions.

Glass Options
JELD-WEN offers a variety of glass options to enhance the performance, aesthetics, and energy efficiency of their windows. These options are designed to meet diverse needs, from improved insulation to enhanced privacy and safety.
Standard Glass
All JELD-WEN windows come with standard clear glass, providing unobstructed views and natural light. This glass is a reliable choice for general use, offering clarity and durability.
Energy-Efficient Glass Packages
JELD-WEN provides several energy-efficient glass packages to help reduce energy consumption and improve comfort:
- Low-E Glass: This is a foundational upgrade for energy efficiency. Low-E (Low-Emissivity) coatings are microscopically thin and virtually invisible. They reflect infrared light (heat) while allowing visible light to pass through. In winter, this helps keep heat inside your home, reducing heating costs. In summer, it reflects the sun's heat away, minimizing cooling needs.
- Argon Gas Fill: An inert gas, argon is denser than air and is used to fill the space between glass panes in double- and triple-pane windows. Argon gas acts as an additional insulator, further reducing heat transfer and improving the overall energy performance of the window.
- Double-Pane (Insulated Glass Units - IGUs): These units consist of two panes of glass separated by a spacer, creating an insulating air or gas-filled gap. This is a standard upgrade for improved thermal performance compared to single-pane windows.
- Triple-Pane (IGUs): Offering the highest level of energy efficiency, triple-pane windows feature three panes of glass with two insulating gaps. This configuration significantly reduces heat transfer, making them ideal for extreme climates or for homeowners looking to maximize energy savings.
- SmartSun™ Glass: This is a specific Low-E coating offered by JELD-WEN that is engineered to block significantly more solar heat gain while still allowing plenty of visible light to enter your home. It's particularly beneficial in warmer climates or for windows that receive direct, intense sunlight.
Decorative and Privacy Glass
For areas where privacy or a decorative touch is desired, JELD-WEN offers:
- Obscure Glass: This type of glass is designed to obscure vision while still allowing light to pass through. It's an excellent choice for bathrooms, entry doors, or any area where privacy is a priority without sacrificing natural light.
- Tinted Glass: Available in various colors, tinted glass can reduce glare and solar heat gain. It also adds a distinct aesthetic element to the window and the home's exterior.
Safety and Security Glass
JELD-WEN also offers glass options that enhance safety and security:
- Tempered Glass: Also known as safety glass, tempered glass is heat-treated to be stronger than standard glass. If it breaks, it shatters into small, relatively harmless pieces, reducing the risk of injury. This is often required in certain applications by building codes.
- Laminated Glass: Composed of two or more panes of glass bonded together with an interlayer (typically PVB), laminated glass offers enhanced security and safety. If broken, the glass fragments adhere to the interlayer, holding the pane together and providing a barrier against intrusion and falling glass. It also offers improved sound dampening properties.
The specific glass options available may vary depending on the JELD-WEN window product line and style chosen.
Options-Styles
JELD-WEN offers a diverse range of style options to complement any architectural design and homeowner preference for their windows and skylights.
The following window styles are available:

United Window & Door offers a variety of frame options designed to enhance the performance and aesthetics of their window products. These options are tailored to meet diverse construction needs and stylistic preferences.
- Vinyl Frames: United Window & Door primarily utilizes high-quality vinyl frames for their window lines. Vinyl is known for its durability, low maintenance, and excellent insulating properties. These frames are designed to resist warping, cracking, and fading, ensuring longevity and consistent performance. The multi-chambered construction of their vinyl frames further contributes to superior thermal efficiency, helping to reduce energy costs.
- Reinforced Construction: Many of United Window & Door's vinyl frames incorporate internal reinforcement. This feature adds structural integrity, especially to larger window openings, and enhances security. The reinforcement ensures that the frames maintain their shape and strength over time, even under significant pressure or stress.
- Multi-Pane Configurations: While not strictly a frame material, the design of the frames accommodates various multi-pane configurations. This includes options for double-pane and triple-pane glass, which are sealed within the frame. The frame design is optimized to securely hold these multiple glass layers, contributing to enhanced sound insulation and thermal performance.
- Interior and Exterior Finishes: United Window & Door's frames are available in a range of interior and exterior color options. These finishes are designed to be long-lasting and resistant to fading, allowing homeowners to match their windows to their home's overall design. The finishes are integrated into the vinyl material, providing a durable and attractive appearance without the need for painting or staining.
Glass Options
United Window & Door offers a range of glass options designed to enhance energy efficiency, comfort, and aesthetic appeal. These options are available across their various window styles, including Double Hung, Single Hung, Sliding Horizontal, Garden, Bay & Bow, Hopper, and Picture windows. For windows with integrated blinds, specific glass configurations are also available.
-
Standard Glass:
All United Window & Door windows come standard with double-pane, 7/8" overall insulated glass units. This provides a solid foundation for thermal performance.
-
Low-E Glass Options:
For improved energy efficiency, United Window & Door offers Low-E (low-emissivity) glass. This coating is applied to the glass surface and helps to:
- Reduce heat transfer, keeping homes cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
- Block a significant portion of the sun's harmful UV rays, which can help protect furniture, flooring, and other interior furnishings from fading.
-
Argon Gas:
In conjunction with Low-E glass, windows can be filled with Argon gas. Argon is a colorless, odorless, and non-toxic inert gas that is denser than air. When sealed between the panes of glass, it:
- Further enhances the insulating properties of the window.
- Reduces the rate of heat transfer, contributing to lower energy bills.
-
Triple-Pane Glass:
For maximum energy efficiency and sound reduction, triple-pane glass is available. This configuration features three panes of glass with two layers of gas fill (typically Argon). Triple-pane glass offers:
- Superior insulation compared to double-pane windows.
- Enhanced protection against outside noise, creating a quieter indoor environment.
-
Tempered Glass:
Tempered glass is a safety glass that is four to five times stronger than regular glass and does not shatter into sharp shards when broken. Instead, it breaks into small, relatively harmless granular pieces. This option is recommended for windows where safety is a concern, such as near doors, in bathrooms, or in areas accessible to children.
-
Decorative Glass:
While not explicitly detailed on the product pages visited, United Window & Door's commitment to customizable solutions suggests the availability of decorative glass options for certain window styles to enhance privacy and aesthetic appeal.
-
Blinds Between Glass:
For their windows featuring blinds between glass, specialized glass configurations are used to accommodate the blind mechanism while maintaining optimal insulating properties. The specific glass types for these units align with the overall energy-efficient offerings of United Window & Door.
